Handbiker and Kickbiker at the Eddy Merckx Classic
All handbikers are very welcome to be part of the Eddy Merckx Classic marathon 2017! Let's support the Charity-Organisation Wings for Life!
To bring a new variety to the starting grid this year it's the first time kickbikers are also competing at the Eddy Merckx Classic. Kickbikes are truly racing machines: 28 inch wheels and light tires combined with tremendous brakes are the perfect combination for competetive sport.
The long tour:
After the start one follows the lakeside promenade in Fuschl am See. The road climbs towards Thalgauegg and from the “Schöffbaumhöhe” one has a fantastic view back to Lake Fuschl. After the relaxing ride down to Thalgau, one follows the road to Unterdorf and via the roundabout the road to Hof bei Salzburg. The Russenstraße is a long climb up to the roundabout in Elsenwang where one takes the first exit towards Salzburg. After a short climb the route passes the Salzburg Ring and Koppl. At the junction to Schwaighofen one joins the same route as the long distance tour. Having passed through the village of Schwaighofen, where refreshments await you, the route descends quickly to Oberplainfeld. The tour then continues towards Thalgau. The long and flat federal road leads through the Upper Austria resort of Keuschen, through meadows and green pastures. Further through the village of St. Lorenz where the road meets the course of the long and middle tours. In St. Lorenz/Plomberg is the last refreshment stop before the tour continues via Scharfling. The Scharfling Pass is the next climb up to Winkl and further to St. Gilgen. Here at the roundabout take the first exit to Fuschl am See and the last climb before the home run. Time to gather ones last reserves as the road descends from Gasthaus Gimsenwirt to Fuschl am See where one follows the third entrance road “West”. The road leads then to the finishing line and in the slipstream of the cycling legend Eddy Merckx one has completed the tour – a great achievement.
The short tour:
The start is in the resort of Hintersee at the Lämmerbach car park. Then cycle down the valley towards Faistenau, along the main road and past Lake Hintersee. After reaching the village of Faistenau, follow the route further to Hof by Salzburg through the regions of Wald and Baderluck. At the round-about take the exit to Fuschl am See where one cycles past the historical Castle of Fuschl. Here one has the first great view of the emerald-green Lake Fuschl. After a number of curves one continues downhill to Fuschl am See. This is the ideal opportunity to gain one´s last reserves for the final sprint. A straight road leads you to the village entrance and the end of the tour.
In the slip-stream of the cycling legend Eddy Merckx you have completed the tour! A great achievement!
